The Children’s Home

28th September, 1923 – children from the Cottage Children’s Homes in Wellingborough Road and in Finedon, together with those living in the Workhouse at Wellingborough were entertained by Mrs Jacques at her home in Orlingbury.

29th June, 1924 – another wonderful trip out for 30 children from the Cottage Children’s Homes here in Wellingborough Road and at Finedon, as well as from the Workhouse.

Again arranged by Guardian Joseph Manger using The Gloria, a charabanc loaned by Briggs Bros. of Wellingborough the party set off at 7.30am en route to Sunny Hunny, or Hunstanton.

Having enjoyed an alfresco lunch by the roadside just beyond Peterborough the party arrived at Salisbury House, their accommodation for the night.

Next morning the beach provided all the entertainment required for the children and the time passed very quickly. After lunch on the beach a start was made on the return journey which was not accomplished until 8 o’clock in the evening, mainly caused by an extended stop at strawberry fields where the children were able to pick fruit to their hearts’ delight.

Mr. Manger reported that not one single hitch had occurred and thanked those adults who had assisted him.
