I’m sure you will recall the research we did on Benefit Clubs and Friendly Societies for the “Irthlingborough In Sickness & in Health” book – a few still available at just £10. The Foresters, Oddfellows, Free Gardeners, Rechabites and Good Templars were all very active here in the days before the NHS, and some, including the Free Gardeners until well into the 1960s.
