Hints for the Sick Room 1917

All medicine glasses and spoons should be washed immediately after use. These and all medicines and pills, should be kept out of the patient sight.

Never depress the patient by sad looks and melancholy tones, always appear bright and cheerful, even if it hides an aching heart.

Never wear rustley dresses or creaking boots and shoes or bangles which jingle.

If this fails try the following:
MUSTARD POULTICE
(just like Grandma used to make)

Must be mixed with cold water as if you were mixing it for the table.
Cut out a piece of brown paper the size and shape of the part to be poulticed, spread with mustard mixture turn and then cover with soft cloth.
I am told ONLY brown paper works…

CANCEL THE WEDDING

Some little sensation was caused at Irthlingborough Church on Sunday morning March 15th 1891 by a person rising and forbidding the reading of the banns for a forthcoming wedding.

One of the would-be contracting parties was a young man, an infant in law, and the father, not liking the match effectually stopped it by this very rare method of objection.
